WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has formally withdrawn a Biden-era proposal that would have required airlines to compensate passengers for significant delays caused by the carrier, according to a Department of Transportation notice in the Federal Register.

The rule, first proposed in December 2024 during the final weeks of Biden’s administration, would have required airlines to pay between $200 and $775, depending on the length of a delay caused by issues within an airline’s control. It was never enacted.

The Department of Transportation said its plan to scrap the proposed rule is “consistent with Department and administration priorities.” Trump has sought to significantly roll back or modify federal regulations that his administration deems wasteful or burdensome.
