KINGSTON — The city’s efforts to simplify and streamline its official plan could dovetail with policy changes from the Ontario government, according to a staff report.

Kingston published the first draft of its new official plan in early August and has been accepting public comment since.

The updated official plan is meant to guide development in coming years.

Later that month, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing called for input from the province’s municipalities about plans to standardize municipal official plans.

“The government heard concerns that municipal official plans have become lengthy, complicated and highly restrictive planning documents that take multiple years to prepare and update,” the government posting stated.
