Workers tasked with removing Union Jacks and St George flags from lampposts are facing 'unacceptable' levels of abuse, local authorities have warned.

Knowsley is one of several councils who have reported "completely unacceptable" threats against staff, and have vowed to enforce the "strongest penalties" will be imposed on those responsible. Trafford Council in Greater Manchester also recently paused the removal of flags after a staff member was threatened on social media.
