Dozens of business groups have united in a call for Labor and the Coalition to "work together" to make "sensible" changes to environment laws the federal government wants to pass this year.

The next few days are viewed as critical to landing a deal on the proposed reforms to update the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act to better serve both the environment and developers, amid hopes the Liberals will be more motivated to bolster their environmental credentials after ditching net zero.
