PHILADELPHIA -- Of the many players who felt their best wasn’t on display versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Grant Stuard is one of them.
Down 3-0 with 11:22 left before halftime, the Detroit Lions were fourth-and-2 from their own 43-yard line. With both offenses stalling at that point in the Week 11 matchup, punting the ball in that situation made sense, especially with the way Detroit’s defense was rolling.
Instead, the Lions opted for a fake punt, initiating a direct snap to Stuard right through the heart of Philadelphia’s defense. Unfortunately for Detroit, Eagles defender Jalyx Hunt -- and others -- sniffed out the trickery, stuffing Stuard at the line for no gain.
It was one of the five failed fourth-down conversions that contributed to the Lions’ 16-9 loss to the Eagles
