HOWELL, MI - The jury trial for a man accused of killing a Michigan State University student has now stretched into its third week.
The trial for Reese Hammie, 24, started its 10th day on Monday, Nov. 17 before Livingston County Trial Court Judge Miriam Cavanaugh. Hammie has been charged with open murder and obstruction of justice in the fatal shooting of Oghenevwede “Wede” Okagbare.
Okagbare, 20, was fatally shot in August 2023 in the 400 block of West Street in Howell. He was a rising junior at Michigan State University studying computer science, according to a GoFundMe . He also enjoyed playing basketball and bass guitar.
“He was a loving son and brother who was hard-working and loved by many,” the GoFundMe reads. “He will be dearly missed.”
