DALLAS — The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, folks!

The biggest World Cup in history will be here before you know it.

The field has been increased from 32 to 48 for the first time since 1998.

As host nations, the United States, Mexico and Canada automatically qualify for the tournament. In the March 2025 window, we started seeing non-host nations qualify for the World Cup. The first to accomplish this feat was Japan on March 20 .

By the end of the March qualification window, four more had punched their tickets.

In the June qualification window, six more teams clinched qualification, bringing the total to 14 teams out of the 48. Five more teams qualified in September, followed by 10 more in October.
