SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Sandy Springs woman has been accused of murder in the death of her 11-year-old daughter, police say.

A release by the Sandy Springs Police Department on Monday said the woman was taken into custody after after a welfare check was requested by another family member over the weekend.

Officers responded to the Laurel Grove Condominiums at 346 Carpenter Drive and found Shannon Grimes "in her residence with her deceased 11-year-old daughter."

There were no details in the department's release about what might have caused the girl's death.

"Ms. Grimes was taken into custody and criminal charges are pending," it said.
