Elderly woman found dead in South LA apartment fire

LOS ANGELES – A woman was found deceased following a residential fire late Sunday afternoon in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported rubbish fire in the 6300 block of S Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park around 4:30 p.m.

According to Battalion Chief Joel Purma, 37 firefighters extinguished the fire in under 30 minutes with no adjoining units damaged.

After extinguishing the fire, a deceased female was found inside the structure. She is believed to be between 60 to 70 years of age.

The woman’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
