Ontario Provincial Police have identified a pilot who died Saturday following a mid-air collision in eastern Ontario as a 28-year-old man from Île-Bizard.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said Sunday that the pilot was taking part in a training exercise at the time of the collision between two small planes.
The TSB said it has deployed a team to Martintown in South Glengarry, about 25 kilometres west of the Ontario-Quebec border, to investigate the crash involving a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and a Piper PA-44 Seminole.
The Seminole, which had two occupants on board, sustained some damage but managed to land safely at the Cornwall Regional Airport, nearly 15 kilometres away.
The pilot, who was pronounced dead on the scene, was the only occupant of the Cessna.
