A bride-to-be sought advice from the Reddit community after a deeply personal wedding decision reopened long-settled wounds within her family.

She explained in her post that her father died when she was just 8 years old, and although her mother remarried when she was 13, she never saw her stepfather, Steve, as a parent.

“He wanted to be a father figure-second dad kind of presence in my life,” she wrote, adding that despite his efforts, she only ever viewed him as her mom’s husband.
