HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Hartford drivers may soon face automated enforcement as the city council approved a proposal to install speed and red light cameras in 11 school zones with high numbers of traffic incidents.
The cameras would be placed in busy areas within school zones, including locations like Capital Preparatory Magnet School on Main Street and McDonough Middle School on Hillside Avenue.
City officials selected the 11 locations based on data showing a high number of traffic incidents near the schools.
Hartford is investing $60,000 in the project, but officials say that cost will be recovered once the cameras are operational and issuing tickets to drivers who speed or run red lights.
