A former Pittsburgh police officer is suing the city, alleging officials did nothing to stop two supervisors from creating a hostile work environment that was so “humiliating and intimidating” and “objectively intolerable” that she felt forced to retire.

Christine Luffey’s lawsuit comes nearly two years after the city found merit in her hostile work environment complaint but closed the case without taking any action. She’s alleging discrimination based on her gender.

City officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ms. Luffey became well known during her 30-year career for her special focus on animal abuse-related cases as well as her community-engagement work and fundraisers for local animal shelters.
