HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Connecticut families covered by the Affordable Care Act are facing dramatic premium increases as enhanced subsidies are set to expire at the end of next month, leaving some to pay five times more for health insurance.

About 159,000 people in Connecticut are covered by the Affordable Care Act through Access Health CT. Of those, 28,000 receive enhanced subsidies that were implemented during the pandemic to make health insurance more affordable.

Sue Lohle, who is covered by Access Health CT, said her insurance broker warned her to prepare for increases, but the actual numbers were shocking.

“She told us our plan went from, the same plan $708 to $3,802. That was totally unexpected,” Lohle said.
