Hartford’s City Council unanimously approved a plan to install 23 speed cameras in high-risk school zones throughout the city.

“They run the red light, speed, ignore the crossing guards here. They don’t even care,” Kaitlyn Soderstrom said.

The cameras will be installed near intersections at 11 schools -- the locations were determined by the city through data collected. The city says the program is a pilot program, but it hopes to expand it.

“We hope to continue to study this and add more data and make sure we're placing these cameras in places where there's most likely to be incidents,” Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said.
