GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A man who drove a Jeep past a police checkpoint at a September 2024 Donald Trump rally in West Michigan told officers “this is C4.”
The C4 that 66-year-old Steven William Nauta dumped out a window at an officer turned out to be a can of “C4 performance energy” drink, but an officer testified Monday she only discovered that later.
Nauta is on trial in a Kent County courtroom for making a false threat of terrorism, possessing explosives with unlawful intent, fleeing police and resisting and obstructing police.
His attorney, Remy Hebert, argued that Nauta never intended to harm anyone and his actions, if anything, were akin to a joke.
But Walker Police Office Tiffany Elliott, in responding to a prosecutor’s question as she testified, said she didn’t think he was joking
