SOLON, Ohio -- A Solon-based nonprofit that transforms empty apartments into fully furnished homes for families leaving homelessness is expanding its reach.
Humble Design Cleveland, which has operated in Greater Cleveland since 2020, now furnishes three homes each week for individuals and families transitioning into stable housing.
The group had been limited to two homes weekly, but leaders say an influx of financial support and donated furniture has made it possible to serve more clients.
The expansion comes as Cleveland continues to confront a stubbornly high poverty rate among large American cities.
For many people who finally receive keys to a new place, the next challenge is moving into an empty home with no beds, couches or kitchen tools.
