ROCHESTER, Minn.- The Rochester City Council is holding a public hearing for a new Central Park Historic Landmark District at its meeting on Monday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m.
The district, if approved, would require the city to make sure any projects taking place in or near the park don't damage its historic integrity or significance in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards of the Treatment of Historic Properties.
The request for the district says its historic significance was from 1856 to 1945, where it was the site of community gatherings and civic events.
Up until 1908 the city says it was one of only two parks close to downtown Rochester.
The Rochester Heritage House has said in the past it was a site of community concerts, ice cream socials and other events.
