STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A Yonkers man pulled over on Staten Island with drugs and a gun in his car is headed to prison.
Anthony Smith, 33, was sentenced earlier this month to 11 years in prison, after a jury found him guilty of charges stemming from the 2023 car stop in New Brighton.
Judge Alexander B. Jeong handed down the sentence Nov. 5 in state Supreme Court, St. George. The top count alone carried a minimum sentence of three-and-a-half years prison.
Smith previously was convicted of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the Bronx, and sentenced to 18 months prison, court documents show.
Queens-based defense attorney Nicholas Dayan did not return a request for comment Monday.
District Attorney Michael E. McMahon issued a statement Friday, saying in part:
