SEATTLE — A man previously convicted of fatally shooting a 16-year-old in 2008 was found asleep and armed with a handgun in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood.

The man was arrested the morning of Nov. 13 after police officers responded to reports of a man armed inside a hotel lobby. He was found sleeping next to a bottle of liquor, according to police.

The gun did not have a serial number. A balaclava was also found nearby, according to police.

The man is prohibited from having guns, which is a violation of his supervised release. KING 5 is not naming him because he has not been charged for this violation.

He was booked into King County Jail.

In 2011, the man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for a Nov. 22, 2008, shooting at the Westfield SouthCenter mall. He pleaded guilty to
