OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Help will arrive faster when seconds count on Douglas County waterways. The sheriff’s office is getting a powerful new rescue boat through a partnership that’s already paying dividends across the metro.
The waters can be beautiful, but also deadly. That harsh reality hit home this summer when three teenage girls went missing on the Missouri River .
The 27-foot Lifeproof rescue boat will be stationed at NP Dodge Park, powered by twin Mercury engines built specifically for river rescues.
The investment comes after deputies had to scrap their old riverboat earlier this year. That decision proved costly this past summer when smaller boats repeatedly broke down during the multi-day search operation for the missing girls.
