ELLSWORTH TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 71-year-old blind man in Ellsworth said the home-delivered meals he depended on every day suddenly stopped in October after Easterseals ran out of funding for the year, leaving him and other rural seniors with limited options.

David LaRue said he had been receiving meals seven days a week for about two years when the deliveries ended.

“It came as a total surprise on October 2, when I first got a voicemail telling me that the program was being terminated,” LaRue said.

LaRue, who is partially blind from multiple strokes and lives alone, said the meals provided security and routine.

“It was assuring me that I had a balanced meal. At least one meal a day,” he said.
