Behind fencing on Penn Avenue in the Cultural District, a crane hovers over a mound of gravel and sand — evidence that work on Downtown Pittsburgh’s newest outdoor entertainment space is progressing.

“When you have a deadline, you move pretty quickly,” Pittsburgh Cultural Trust President and CEO Kendra Whitlock Ingram said Monday morning, standing in front of the mound, soon to become a one-acre public lawn.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is leading the construction of Arts Landing, a new $31 million public park along the Allegheny River that is expected to open before Pittsburgh hosts the NFL draft in April 2026.
