Police have identified the 78-year-old pedestrian killed in late October when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in the Gateway neighborhood as Mariya I. Stanko.
Stanko died at the scene, police said.
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. The crash occurred on Northeast 102nd Avenue, between Pacific and Halsey streets on Oct. 29 at around 8 p.m.
She was one of two pedestrians and a bicyclist who died after being hit that night on “high crash” streets in Northeast Portland. All three crashes occurred within a two-mile radius.
Stanko’s son, Vitaliy Divinets, said the wound of his mother’s death is still fresh. He last talked to her just a few hours before the collision, he said, and is struggling to accept that he’ll never spea
