MONROE, Wash — A Monroe man is in custody following his arrest on suspicion of kidnapping, assault, and making death threats after allegedly abducting his ex-girlfriend's two children and assaulting her over the weekend , according to Monroe police.

Police said the 45-year-old Monroe resident was taken into custody early Sunday morning after officers responded to a domestic violence call around 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of South Lewis Street. The ex-girlfriend called 911, reporting that she had been attacked and her vehicle stolen.

According to police, the suspect fled south on state Route 203 and allegedly tried to run her over. The woman returned home and found her two children, ages 7 years and 10 months, missing.
