CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For days, some families have been afraid to go to work and kids afraid to walk to the bus stop.
Advocates like Action NC said federal agents are tearing families apart and a lot them feel vulnerable and unprotected.
They showed up by the dozen at Charlotte City Council asking city leaders how they can ensure the safety of those in the community.
"This is not hypothetical, this is happening right here in our community," Councilwoman Dimples Ajmera said.
Mayor Vi Lyles says the city is trying to provide resources and support to residents.
"What we have been trying to tell people is they have rights and constitutional protections," Lyles said.
