Plans for more than 100 affordable housing units have been rejected by Gold Coast city councillors because of parking and building height concerns.
The 109 studio units, to be built at Keir Street, Miami, were designed for "low socio-economic people" and those in need of "transitional or emergency accommodation".
The 31-metre-tall complex would include 57 car parks but be within walking distance of two light rail stations on the Gold Coast Highway, set to open by mid-2026.
But the proposal was refused at council's Planning and Regulation Committee on Tuesday.
Councillor Nick Marshall, OAM, told the committee that he opposed the project due to a "gross undersupply of car parking".
"These aren't necessarily people that are homeless in a tent," he said.
