MISHAWAKA Ind. (WNDU) - Indiana municipal leaders are pushing for amendments to Senate Enrolled Act 1, warning the property tax relief law will force cities to cut government services despite providing tax relief to homeowners and businesses.
Accelerate Indiana Municipalities organized a roundtable Monday where town and city leaders discussed concerns about the law’s impact on municipal budgets. The organization has traveled the state presenting local governments with recommended amendments to the legislation.
Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood, who also serves as president of AIM, said cities will need to cut government services even with the proposed amendments, which would provide cities with sufficient tax revenue to maintain spending rates from the 2025 budget.
