When he opened the K Contemporary art gallery in an 1880s building in Denver in 2017, owner Doug Kacena said the building’s lack of modern features made it difficult to perform even the simplest tasks.

“I had to drill holes in the floor just to have power,” he said, laughing.

So Kacena was understandably delighted when he got a tour in August of a soon-to-be-vacant, 4,000-square-foot gallery at 203 Canyon Road, in a town where he always had wanted to open a second gallery. Kacena said the building was just what he’d been looking for.

“It’s an uber-contemporary space, and it’s spectacular,” he said. “It’s got its own parking lot, it’s got an outdoor space, it’s got data everywhere and it’s even got overhead tracks for projectors.”

“It was my dream gallery, and I had to do it,” he added.
