Amaravati: In a major success, security forces in Andhra Pradesh have claimed to have eliminated top Maoist commander Madvi Hidma in an operation that is still ongoing.

Hidma’s name has become synonymous with the Communist Party of India (Maoist). He is known to have led at least 26 attacks against security forces and civilians. ADVERTISEMENT

Tuesday’s encounter took place in the Maredumilli forest near the tri-junction of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, officials said. This is in the Alluri Sitharamaraju district of Andhra Pradesh.

The bodies of at least six rebels have been spotted. They include those of Hidma and his wife Raje alias Rajakka, officials said.
