The City of Eugene, through a contractor, is installing 10 traffic cameras at intersections in Eugene.

The cameras are meant to assist the City's "Vision Zero" program , which aims to eliminate fatal crashes in the city. According to Marion Barnes, spokesperson for City of Eugene Public Works, the cameras will start going up Nov. 19 and record traffic for 24 hours, with each camera staying up less than a week.

The city will use the footage to record data on near misses and close calls, speeds for turning and going straight, running red lights, and the volume and movement patterns of people walking and biking. They will not be used for law enforcement or to identify people or property, according to Barnes.
