Last season, Johnston put together an undefeated season en route to winning the Class 5A Iowa high school girls basketball state championship for the second straight season.

It marked the third time in four years that the Dragons claimed the title with an undefeated record. In 2022, Pleasant Valley did the same thing. So competition is tough among girls basketball teams in Iowa.
