As the current cold snap sets in with much of Greater Glasgow under an ice warning this week, Scotland's Road Operating Companies have deployed some of their finest gritters to salt the trunk roads and ensure they are ice-free for drivers.

Many of Scotland's gritters are named by the public, which as you can imagine opens doors to a snowstorm of ice puns, names of famous Scots and other weather -related gags including 'Yes Sir Ice Can Boogie', and 'William Wall-Ice'.

The Traffic Scotland website has its own gritter tracker that anyone can use to see which trunk roads are currently being gritted- and by which aptly named gritter.
