Director Joseph Kosinski is keen to make a sequel to his smash hit movie F1.
The sports drama, which starred Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, was a critical hit and box office success when it was released in June, taking more than $630 million (£480 million) worldwide. As a result, discussions about a sequel swiftly got underway, according to reports.
Director Kosinski has now confirmed the rumours, revealing that he would love to make more stories about Pitt and Idris's characters Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce.
"I personally would love to see what other adventures Sonny Hayes has in his future," Kosinski said during Deadline's Contenders Film: Los Angeles event over the weekend. "I'd love to see what's happened with the APXGP team and Joshua Pearce, and see how his career goes, so I would love to be able to tell another chapter in that story and it's something we just started kinda dreaming about and it's fun to be in this stage of imagining what that might be."
F1 follows Pitt's retired driver Sonny after he is approached by his former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), to join his struggling APXGP team and save it from collapse by helping rookie driver Joshua.
Earlier this month, F1 producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that he had a meeting with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, who was an executive producer on the film, about a sequel.
"We met with Lewis Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, and started talking about some ideas," he told Forbes.
The film, which also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles and Kim Bodnia, will become available to stream on Apple TV+ on 12 December.
