MINNEAPOLIS — The average age of a first-time homeowner in the United States is 40 years old - an all-time high - according to new data released by the National Association of Realtors.

In the Twin Cities, one organization is working to make the real estate market more accessible, especially for communities facing more barriers to homeownership.

"We get to step in and disrupt the inequities in the real estate market," said Aarica Coleman, CEO of Land Bank Twin Cities.

Land Bank Twin Cities secures properties across the metro that are in demand by developers. The organization then holds the property, looking for a community-centered developer.

"Focusing on those that have been historically disadvantaged or kept out based on race, income, economic status," Coleman said.
