Peel police are looking to identify a suspect who allegedly removed a licence plate from their vehicle after fleeing the site of a fatal hit and run in Mississauga Friday night.

Around 9:05 p.m. Friday, a person driving a Mini Cooper struck a pedestrian around Eglinton Avenue W. and Fallingbrook Drive, Peel Regional Police said in a news release.

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old man from Mississauga, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

The driver fled the scene “without checking on the person they struck,” police said.

Investigators say nearby CCTV footage showed a male suspect removing the rear license plate from his vehicle and placing it in the trunk before fleeing.
