TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Over 500 Arizona teachers will receive $2,500 checks for their classrooms as part of the Fiesta Sports Foundation’s Wishes for Teachers program.
The program is celebrating its 10th year by distributing a record $1.5 million to educators across the state. Sierra Meyers, a physical education teacher at James Madison Preparatory School in Tempe, was among the first to be surprised.
Meyers has been teaching PE for a year and a half and said she has spent hundreds of dollars of her own money buying equipment for her classes.
“I don’t even want to know,” Meyers said about how much she has spent. “PE equipment is expensive. A pack of six dodgeballs is like 75 bucks.”
