GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Evangelina Morales was 6 when she came to the U.S. in 2001 with her parents.

By 15, she was on her own. Her parents were deported to Mexico.

Now, a single mother with four children – all U.S. citizens – Morales is locked up in a former prison with other undocumented immigrants who are being held indefinitely, unable to seek release on bond.

The attorneys for the Michigan woman have asked a federal judge to review her continued detention - and filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of other immigrant detainees who, under previous administrations, likely would have been released on bond with cases pending before immigration court.
