MADISON (WKOW) — A person of interest in a deadly shooting on Madison's north side Monday was taken into custody, the Madison Police Department announced Tuesday.

Officers found the person of interest near the airport Monday night and took them into custody during what police described as a high-risk traffic stop. Police took the person to the Dane County Jail on a Department of Corrections warrant.

One person died in the shooting Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to Brentwood Parkway, just south of Warner Park, around 2:45 p.m. When they got there, they found a man with a gunshot wound lying on the road.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary evidence indicates the shooting was targeted.
