LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley released a report Monday that showed more than $40 million in delinquent taxes from last year.

“In Nebraska, you’re going to die. You can’t escape the mortality that we all suffer from. But in some cases, you can get away with not paying your taxes, and that’s just not right,” Foley said.

In 2025 alone, the state of Nebraska is missing more than $41 million in tax revenue.

If you total up the last 10 years, the state is missing out on over $310 million.

Foley says this trend is concerning and doesn’t help state legislators find money to balance the budget. According to Nebraska’s Economic Forecasting Advisory Board, the state’s budget hole is up to over $400 million.
