The recent letter by Lynne Agress about matching job skills with current needs is a great read ( “Jobs and education for the 21st century,” Nov. 7). My one issue is that it did not mention that private citizens and government both are lacking frugality in balancing their financial resources with spending.

With every example of someone living within their means, I would venture to guess there are far more who do not. A family that is not frugal may not deliberately pass that lifestyle to their children (even as political viewpoints are inherited). Retirement planning often commences when it is too late.

Why can’t K-12 schools include courses that provide fundamentals and reality of living and surviving financially — as I assume their students eventually join the workforce to provide for
