CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne’s administration agreed Monday to add about $4.6 million to the sheriff’s budget as part of final amendments to its 2026–2027 spending plan, but the sheriff’s fiscal leaders say the boost still leaves them millions short of what it will take to run the agency next year.
The additions are part of about $8.6 million in general fund increases over Ronayne’s initial budget, raising the sheriff’s proposed 2026 budget to roughly $205 million. Still, Sheriff’s finance officials Chris Costin and Donna Kaleal told council that the department needs at least $213 million to cover known personnel costs, benefits and overtime – and closer to $215 million if the sheriff’s earlier projection of $23 million in overtime holds.
