Alabama checked that first box with a run through four straight ranked teams that seemed to lock in a playoff spot. Just kept finding a way.

Avenged two of last year’s losses and carried momentum straight into its second open week.

Something’s been off, though.

Since peaking with the 37-20 win over Tennessee on Oct. 18, Alabama has looked vulnerable. It then survived a scare at South Carolina and an uninspiring night against a beat-up LSU, only to throw the whole season up for grabs Saturday.

What seemed to be resolved after the FSU folly is back up for debate.
