A Canberra doctor has been accused of choking his child and leaving scratch marks on their neck in a "violent" attack.
On Tuesday, November 18, the ACT Magistrates Court heard the father had to be stopped from chasing his child around a house with bat.
The doctor pleaded not guilty to one charge of intentionally and unlawfully choking, suffocating or strangling another person. The charge was classified as family violence.
Magistrate James Lawton acknowledged the "serious" allegations but granted the doctor bail, noting he had no prior criminal history.
A prosecutor argued against bail, raising concerns about the doctor's "willingness to assault his child", and describing the alleged crime as concerning.
