The Met Office has confirmed that 'significant' snow is expected across some parts of the UK this week.

An amber weather warning for snow will be in place between 5am and 9pm on Thursday, November 20.

'Frequent wintry showers' will lead to 'significant snow accumulations', the Met Office said.

This is likely to cause disruption on Thursday, November 20.

The wintry weather is expected to cause travel delays, with some vehicles and passengers 'stranded'.

According to the Met Office, power cuts are 'likely' and mobile phone coverage could be impacted.

There is also a 'good chance that some rural communities could become cut off'.
