Quinte West OPP would like to remind drivers and cyclists of the crosswalk rules.

Since the start of the school year, OPP has responded to numerous complaints of drivers not yielding to pedestrians and crossing guards in designated crossing areas.

Police ask drivers and cyclists that when you come upon a school crosswalk you:

Stop and yield: You must stop completely and yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks, crossovers, and school crossings.

Wait: Do not proceed until pedestrians have completely crossed the roadway and are safely on the sidewalk at crossovers and at crosswalks controlled by a crossing guard.

Check for pedestrians : Always look for pedestrians, especially when turning, and watch for children in school and residential zones.
