Former Toledo Goaldiggers defenseman Mike Greeder, who went on to coach high school hockey in northwest Ohio, is the newest member of the Toledo Hockey Hall of Fame.

Greeder was the captain of the Goaldiggers’ 1981-82 International Hockey League Turner Cup champion team.

Greeder, a native of Mahtomedi, Minn., settled in Toledo and then coached at Southview and St. Francis de Sales high schools.

The defensemen played four seasons in Toledo from 1980 to 1985. He appeared in 250 games for the Goaldiggers and finished with 115 points. He scored 33 goals to go along with 82 assists, while adding 868 penalty minutes.

Greeder, who died of a heart attack at age 48 in 2005, will be honored posthumously at the Toledo Walleye’s Hockey Heritage Weekend on Friday, Jan. 23, and Sunday, Jan. 25.
