SAN FRANCISCO — INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE giant Cloudflare suffered a widespread outage Tuesday morning that knocked offline major platforms, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Shopify and X (the Brooklyn Eagle was also down during the outage), according to numerous sites including CNBC. A company spokesperson blamed the disruption on a “spike in unusual traffic” detected around 6:20 a.m. ET, though the source of the spike remains unidentified. The issue was fixed after roughly six hours.
Cloudflare, which secures traffic for approximately 20% of the web, saw its shares slide in premarket trading as teams worked to restore service. The stock recovered throughout the day.
