Fired Penn State head coach James Franklin has finally found his next home, as the longtime Nittany Lions leader agreed to a deal with Virginia Tech on Monday .

But his former school is still on the hunt.

Penn State continues to vet candidates and gather information. And though we’ll presumably have to wait for the end of the regular season to get an answer, things are heating up a bit.

We’re comfortable chopping a big chunk of names off of this week’s temperature check.

Of course, things change fast in this industry. We can’t speak with much certainty about this coaching search until the next man has actually put pen to paper. Even then, it may be a poor choice (see: Manny Diaz at Temple while current PSU AD Pat Kraft was with the Owls).
