The latest mural for downtown Valparaiso has been months in the making. Finally, all the pieces are coming together.
Tuesday, the Valparaiso Creative Council held a painting party for volunteers to paint puzzle pieces shaped like abstract flowers to be installed in the alley on Franklin Street just east of the Porter County Courthouse.
“We had over 430 pieces to paint,” Executive Director Jessica Corral said, in a variety of colors.
It’s a community effort, with some painted during the mural walk event in August and others since then. By Tuesday, it was down to the last 68 puzzle pieces. Enough volunteers had signed up that all pieces were assigned an artist for completion of the project on Saturday.
“The goal is to engage the public in creative opportunities,” Corral said.
